Sindh’s New English Program Boosts Teachers

Sindh Boosts Education with English Language Program

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has inaugurated the second phase of the English as a Subject for Teachers and Educators (EaSTE-II) programme. This key initiative, a partnership with the British Council, aims to improve the teaching skills of thousands of educators across the province. This program is a significant step towards raising the quality of education in Sindh.

Goals of the EaSTE-II Program

The EaSTE-II program is a major milestone for education reform. Its primary goal is to empower teachers with the skills and confidence they need at the beginning of their careers. The program will train:

  • 30,000 new primary and early childhood teachers.
  • 1,000 mentors.
  • 35 course leaders.

This training builds upon the success of the first EaSTE phase. The CM highlighted that this initiative aligns with Sindh’s wider educational reform agenda, including the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Model 2022. It is expected to directly benefit nearly two million children in public schools.

The Importance of English Language Skills

CM Shah emphasized that English language proficiency opens doors to global opportunities, technology, and research. However, he also stressed the importance of valuing local languages like Sindhi and Urdu. The program’s design is inclusive, prioritizing female teachers, minority groups, and educators with disabilities.

Sindh’s Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah added that strong language skills enhance learning across all subjects. He called the program more than just an English project, but a “bridge to knowledge” that will unlock learning in every classroom.

Innovative Training and Global Recognition

The EaSTE-II programme uses a modern, hybrid training approach. This model includes:

  • Digital self-learning modules.
  • Hybrid and online classes.
  • Peer learning networks.

This innovative approach has received international recognition. The CM noted that UNESCO recently recognized Sindh’s teachers as “Creative Teachers” for their ability to blend artificial intelligence with traditional teaching methods. This makes the program a model for 21st-century teacher development.

An Investment in Sindh’s Future

The launch of EaSTE-II is a testament to Sindh’s commitment to empowering its educators. This partnership with the British Council and the UK government is a clear investment in the future of the province’s children. By equipping teachers with better skills, Sindh is building a stronger foundation for progress and global competition.
