The Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project had a serious accident just 10 days after its start when a high-speed container transporter lost control of the road and crashed into a height portal under the OLMT route near Baghbanpura, Lahore. The impact of the collision threw the portal onto the sidewalk.
As the video shows, the incident took place in the middle of the night and two parked cars were crushed under the portal. The truck driver and passenger sustained some injuries and no other casualties were reported.
Spectators reported that the accident occurred due to the heavy truck’s extraordinary height. In addition, an OLMT representative briefed the media that the height portals were being built to protect the cables underneath, which are essential to the day-to-day operation of the project.
The service started on October 25, 2020. 22 trains are currently running on the tracks every day. The 45-minute one-way street is 27 km long and connects Ali Town and Dera Gujran. The route has 19 stations and the service’s working hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
