Government Slashes RLNG Prices, Boosting Power Sector

The government has taken a significant step to reduce the average monthly sale price of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) by up to $0.1938 or 1.5 percent for July 2023.

OGRA’s Announcement on RLNG Pricing

On Tuesday, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) released its updated RLNG weighted average selling preliminary pricing. The new pricing structure sets RLNG prices at $12.6493/mmBtu for SNGPL customers and $13.1367/mmBtu for SSGC customers.

Impact on Electricity Generation Costs

Decreasing RLNG prices by 1.5 percent from the previous rate, these adjustments follow a series of rate cuts witnessed in preceding months. Although the reduced prices will have a minor impact on electricity generating costs, RLNG-based power plants will benefit, considering the federal government’s decision to raise electricity rates in the current billing cycle.
