Usman Wazeer Title Controversy: Pakistan Boxing Federation Feud

The world of Pakistani sports is rarely quiet, and the latest headlines are all about boxing. A major conflict has erupted between the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) and one of the country’s top boxers, Usman Wazeer.

Wazeer recently made history by winning the WBC OPBF Silver welterweight title, a first for any Pakistani boxer. He defeated experienced Indonesian boxer Stevie Ongen Ferdinandus. However, the PBF has completely rejected his achievement. They claim Wazeer has built his career on “fabricated achievements and purchased titles.”

The Allegations Against Usman Wazeer

The PBF, along with the Pakistan Pro-Green Boxing Federation (PGBF), released a strong statement with serious accusations. They allege that Wazeer’s perfect boxing record and his new international title are not from real victories but from financial deals.

According to the federations, the Gilgit-born boxer, who is currently ranked 86th in the world, has been arranging matches against weak opponents. They claim he pays fighters, referees, and judges to get the outcomes he wants.

Is Boxing in Pakistan a “Manufactured Product”?

The federations went into detail about the costs. They estimate that over PKR 45 million has been spent to keep Wazeer’s image as an undefeated champion. They claim rival boxers were paid between $1,500 and $5,000 to lose on purpose, and that officials were also paid off.

The Pro-Green Boxing Federation even stated that Wazeer’s latest title was only worth about $3,000 on the open market.

Key Accusations:

  • Paying opponents to lose
  • Influencing referees and judges
  • Arranging bouts against low-level boxers
  • Buying titles instead of winning them

The PGBF’s statement called Wazeer a “manufactured product” of fake titles and weak opponents. They worry that promoting him as a national hero could mislead and set a bad example for Pakistan’s youth.

What This Means for Pakistani Boxing

This public conflict is more than just about one boxer. It highlights the deeper issues within Pakistan’s boxing system, which has a long history of being unorganized and divided. Many observers believe this controversy will only make the existing problems worse. The dispute raises serious questions about the credibility of the entire sport in the country.
