The much-anticipated Nothing Phone 2 has finally arrived, and it’s time to see if the hype was worth it. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Phone 1, Nothing has some big expectations to meet. While our comprehensive review is still underway, here are our initial impressions of this new phone.
The Nothing Phone 2 comes in a slim package similar to its predecessor but with a notable improvement—a proper box that slides out from inside the outer printed jacket. Inside, you’ll find essential documentation, a transparent SIM eject tool, and a stylish USB Type-C cable featuring a transparent section near the connector. While the Phone 2 introduces a new Dark Grey color, the white variant from the previous model is still available.
Configurations and Pricing
Nothing has launched the Phone 2 in three configurations to cater to varying needs. The base variant, priced at Rs. 44,999 in India, offers 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. For Rs. 49,999, you can upgrade to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Additionally, a new third variant with 512GB of storage (and 12GB of RAM) is available at Rs. 54,999 in India. While the Phone 2’s prices are higher compared to the Phone 1’s initial pricing, notable upgrades have been implemented to justify the increase.
Design and Display Enhancements
The design takes center stage for Nothing, and the Phone 2 continues the brand’s commitment to aesthetics. Evolving the original semi-transparent design in subtle ways, the Phone 2 closely resembles its predecessor at a distance, but notable changes become apparent when you hold them side by side. The Nothing Phone 2 is larger, taller, a bit wider, heavier, and thicker than the Phone 1. Despite its increased dimensions, it still offers an excellent grip, and Nothing proudly highlights the 100 percent recycled aluminum mid-frame.
On the Phone 2, you’ll find a few repositioned antenna bands and one of the microphones, while the buttons and ports retain their familiar placements from the Phone 1. The Phone 2 features a glass back panel with curved edges, enhancing its ergonomics. Moreover, the Glyph lights on the back now have more segments, allowing for dynamic lighting patterns and displays of information.
The display of the Nothing Phone 2 remains flat but now incorporates a centered hole-punch camera. Measuring 6.7 inches, the company has employed an updated LTPO OLED panel that offers a variable refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz, based on the need. The peak brightness has been boosted to up to 1,600 nits, and the Phone 2 boasts a slightly improved water resistance rating of IP54, compared to the IP53 of its predecessor.
