The Punjab government has announced the closure of all public and private medical colleges and nursing schools in the province for ten days from Monday.
The provincial Health Department had issued a notification in this regard on Sunday.
However, the MBBS and BDS exam schedules will be carried out as planned.
In a separate development, the provincial government has also decided to close OPDs in public hospitals in seven districts hardest hit by the coronavirus.
According to the official announcement, the OPDs of four departments (Dermatology, NNT, Dentistry and Ophthalmology) will remain closed until April 20, while the other OPDs will function as usual.
The districts where the OPDs will be closed are Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan.
The provincial government has stated that patients are not allowed to enter hospitals without a face mask and that patients without a mask are given masks before entering hospitals.
The decision to close the OPDs will be reviewed on April 20th.
