The Punjab School Education Department has revealed that 2,925 government schools across the province are no longer operational due to severe flooding. According to Secretary of School Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, 1,151 schools have sustained damage — with 817 partially harmed and 45 entirely demolished. At the same time, over 1,700 school buildings have been designated as relief centers for flood victims, further delaying the continuation of regular classes. The students can check the fresh updates of Floods Force Closure of Nearly 3,000 Schools in Punjab.
Academic Activities on Hold as Schools Turn into Relief Camps
The closures affect both male and female institutions, including 1,505 girls’ schools and 1,420 boys’ schools. This has left more than 680,000 students unable to pursue their studies, with the hardest-hit areas being Gujrat, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan, where a majority of schools remain out of service. Wattoo noted that the repurposing of schools as shelter facilities has added to the disruption, worsening the situation for students and teachers already struggling in flood-affected regions.
