The Inter-Medical University Board, which is composed of VCs and rectors from all medical universities, has decided that no student from a medical or dental university across Pakistan will be promoted to the next class without passing the exams.
The decision was made at a board meeting chaired by VC Prof. Javed Akram at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Lahore.
In addition, the board has announced that after Eid-ul-Fitr additional audits will be conducted that have been postponed due to the COVID 19 outbreak in the country. The exams are held according to the SOPs with a special focus on social distancing.
The board of directors unanimously agreed that no failed student would be awarded an appreciation grade to help them advance to the next class.
The meeting also decided not to reschedule the current academic session and determined that the exams will take place in October according to the previously agreed schedule.
After the meeting, VC UHS said that canceling exams would irreparably affect the quality of medical education in Pakistan.
Inter-Medical University Board can’t compromise on the standards of medical education. Medical students are advised to prepare themselves for their examinations.
Regarding online courses for medical students, the board agreed to continue the online education mode amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Finally, the board members spoke in favor of the idea of organizing intermediate examinations by various educational bodies as well as an admission test for medical and dental universities (MDCAT) by universities, while at the same time guaranteeing strict social distance. The UHS VC concluded that MDCAT could be postponed until late September.
میڈیکل طلباء کو بغیر امتحانات کے پاس نہیں دیا جائے گا
انٹر میڈیکل یونیورسٹی بورڈ ، جو میں وی سی اور تمام میڈیکل یونیورسٹیوں کے ریکٹروں پر مشتمل ہے ، نے فیصلہ کیا ہے کہ پاکستان بھر میں کسی بھی میڈیکل یا ڈینٹل کالج کے کسی بھی طالب علم کو بغیر امتحانات پاس کیے اگلی کلاس میں ترقی نہیں دی جائے گی۔
یہ فیصلہ لاہور میں یونیورسٹی آف ہیلتھ سائنسز (یو ایچ ایس) میں وی سی پروفیسر جاوید اکرم کی زیرصدارت بورڈ کے اجلاس میں کیا گیا ہے۔
اس کے علاوہ بورڈ نے عیدالفطر کے بعد اضافی امتحانات لینے کا اعلان کیا ہے جو ملک میں کوویڈ 19 پھیلنے کی وجہ سے ملتوی کردی گئیں۔ امتحانات ایس او پیز کے مطابق ہوں گے جس میں معاشرتی دوری پر خصوصی توجہ دی جائے گی۔
بورڈ نے متفقہ طور پر اس بات پر اتفاق کیا ہے کہ کسی بھی ناکام طالب علم کو کوئی فضلاتی نشان نہیں دیا جائے گا جس سے وہ اگلی کلاس میں ترقی حاصل کرنے میں معاون ثابت ہوں گے۔
اجلاس میں جاری تعلیمی سیشن میں تاخیر کے خلاف بھی فیصلہ کیا گیا ہے اور بتایا گیا ہے کہ امتحانات پہلے متفقہ شیڈول کے مطابق اکتوبر میں ہوں گے۔
اجلاس کے بعد ، وی سی یو ایچ ایس نے کہا کہ امتحانات کی منسوخی سے پاکستان میں طبی تعلیم کے معیار کو ناقابل تلافی نقصان ہوگا۔
