The amended schedules for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India have been announced following the qualification of two teams through the qualifier held in Zimbabwe. The teams that secured their spots in the tournament are Sri Lanka and the Netherlands.
Sri Lanka and the Netherlands: World Cup Campaigns
Sri Lanka emerged victorious against the Netherlands in the Qualifier final in Harare. They will commence their World Cup campaign by facing South Africa at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on 7 October. Their Group Stage journey will culminate with a match against New Zealand in Bengaluru on 9 November.
On the other hand, the Netherlands, who finished as runners-up in the Qualifier, will kick off their campaign against Pakistan on 6 October in Hyderabad. Led by Scott Edwards, their final Group Stage encounter will be against the tournament hosts, India, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on 11 November.
Exciting Matchups and Key Venues
The tournament will commence with an exhilarating clash between defending champions England and New Zealand on 5 October at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The final Group Stage match will witness England taking on Pakistan at the iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
The schedule also reveals that the first semi-final will be held on Wednesday, 15 November, in Mumbai, followed by the second semi-final on the next day in Kolkata. Both semi-finals will have a reserve day allocated.
Grand Finale and Knockout Matches
The grand finale of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19 November, with 20 November serving as the reserve day. All three knockout fixtures, including the semi-finals and the final, will be day-night matches.
Venues and Warm-up Matches
According to the ICC website, a total of 10 venues will host the matches, including Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram. In addition to Hyderabad, the warm-up matches will take place from 29 September to 3 October.
