In a bold move aimed at bolstering revenue and improving road safety, the Punjab Police has put forward a sweeping proposal to raise driving license fees significantly.
The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab has recently submitted a comprehensive summary to the provincial government, seeking the necessary approval for the proposed fee hike across various categories of driving licenses.
If the proposal gains the green light, substantial changes will be observed across all license categories.
Currently priced at Rs. 550, the motorcycle driving license fee is set to experience an astounding 263.64% surge, reaching a new amount of Rs. 2,000.
Obtaining an LTV license would become significantly costlier, as the fee is proposed to skyrocket by 321.05%, increasing from Rs. 950 to Rs. 4,000.
Aspiring holders of an HTV license will face an incredible 788.89% fee increase, with charges soaring from Rs. 450 to Rs. 4,000.
The learner license fee is also in line for a substantial adjustment. If approved, the fee for obtaining a learner license will rise from the current Rs. 60 to Rs. 500, showcasing an astonishing percentage change of 733.33%.
It’s crucial to note that the proposed fee hike extends beyond domestic licenses to also encompass the International Driving License.
Should the proposal receive approval, obtaining an International Driving License would require a fee of Rs. 4,000, marking a significant percentage increase from the existing amount.
