Pakistan Sells Washington Embassy Property for $7.1M

The Pakistani government has successfully raised $7.1 million by selling a building associated with its former embassy in Washington. This move comes after the premises had remained vacant for the past two decades, causing a financial burden on the crisis-hit country.

Building Purchased by Pakistani Business Magnate Hafeez Khan

Pakistani business magnate Hafeez Khan has reportedly acquired the historic building, which is situated in the heart of Washington. The building’s diplomatic status was revoked five years ago, making it subject to local government taxes.

Former Embassy Building Sold After Bidding Process

Initially, the former embassy building was put up for auction, attracting several bids that reached up to $6.8 million. However, the bidding process was unexpectedly canceled without any specific reason given. Later this year, the building’s classification was downgraded to Class 4, indicating its deteriorating condition as a blighted property.
