After making a significant impact in dramas, movies, and telefilms, and representing Pakistan globally, Mehwish Hayat is now venturing into production. On Instagram, the Teri Meri Kahaniyaan actor announced the launch of her production house, Pink Llama Films, based in the UK.
Taking Control of Representation
Expressing her excitement, Hayat said,
“I’ve been working on something special for a while. Discussing the portrayal of Muslims and Pakistanis in Western media, I realized that mere words are not enough. To truly change these perceptions, we must take action.”
Inspiration from Ms Marvel
Movies and TV series produced abroad often perpetuate harmful stereotypes about Muslims and Pakistanis. Hayat believes that establishing her production company in the UK is the “only way to shape the narrative about who we are and what we stand for.”
She also shared her experience working in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Ms Marvel, where she played the character Aisha. This experience reinforced her belief in the importance of representation.
Dismantling Stereotypes and Fostering Acceptance
At Pink Llama Films, Hayat and her partners are dedicated to creating “authentic, thought-provoking, and entertaining content.” She aims to dismantle stereotypes and promote understanding and acceptance in the world.
Hayat has already begun working on several projects and encourages people to share their stories with her. She is thrilled with the response she has received so far and takes pride in collaborating with award-winning partners on exciting projects, which she eagerly anticipates sharing with her audience. For those with a story to tell, she encourages them to reach out via the website.
Currently, Hayat is busy promoting the star-studded film, Teri Meri Kahaniyaan.
