The National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution teaching the Holy Quran to universities across the country.
The resolution was tabled by Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan during a session of the National Assembly chaired by spokesman Asad Qaiser.
The resolution mentioned that the Quran should be taught with translation to universities in provinces that are not currently doing so.
The resolution says that by reading the Urdu translation of the Holy Quran, the young generation will explore new ways of knowing.
The development came days after the Punjab government introduced a new Quran course, making it mandatory for students from all public and private universities to learn the Urdu translation of the Holy Quran.
The governor of Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar, issued a notice saying that the new Quran course will be mandatory for everyone and no student will graduate without completing and passing the course.

قومی اسمبلی نے ملک بھر کی جامعات میں قرآن مجید کی تعلیم کے لئے متفقہ طور پر ایک قرار داد منظور کی ہے۔
اس قرارداد کو وزیر پارلیمانی امور علی محمد خان نے اسپیکر اسد قیصر کی زیر صدارت قومی اسمبلی کے اجلاس کے دوران پیش کیا۔
قرارداد میں مذکور ہے کہ صوبوں کی یونیورسٹیوں میں ترجمے کے ساتھ قرآن کی تعلیم دی جانی چاہئے جو فی الحال ایسا نہیں کرتی ہے۔
قرارداد میں کہا گیا ہے کہ قرآن پاک کا اردو ترجمہ پڑھ کر ، نوجوان نسل علم کی نئی راہیں تلاش کرے گی۔
یہ پیشرفت کے کچھ دن پہلے حکومت پنجاب نے قرآن کا ایک نیا نصاب متعارف کرایا ہے جس کے تحت تمام سرکاری و نجی یونیورسٹیوں کے طلباء کو قرآن پاک کا اردو ترجمہ سیکھنا لازمی قرار دے دیا گیا ہے۔
اس سلسلے میں گورنر پنجاب چوہدری سرور نے ایک نوٹیفکیشن جاری کیا ، جس میں کہا گیا ہے کہ نیا قرآن کورس ہر ایک کے لئے لازمی ہوگا ، اور کسی بھی طالب علم کوکورس مکمل کیے اور پاس کیے بغیر ڈگری نہیں دی جائے گی۔
