High-speed highways require the full attention of drivers to ensure the safety of themselves, their passengers and vehicles on the road. In the case of vehicles with a speed of 110-120 km / h, the error rate is almost impossible, especially in the case of large commercial vehicles.
Unfortunately, careless attitudes by drivers and transportation service providers are becoming dangerously common across Pakistan, resulting in numerous high-speed accidents and deaths in recent times.
Last week a bus driver hit a truck at high speed on the M2. The driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, which caused the bus to crash directly into the back of a truck. The collision left two people dead and six injured. The bus and driver are part of a popular transportation service called Faisal Movers.
On Friday, the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) released a statement stating that it has banned Faisal Movers vehicles from the M2 indefinitely.
This decision was reportedly approved by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Motorway Zone) and the NHMP after this was the second accident of its type in a month. The previous accident allegedly occurred on May 25, 2021. The statement showed that the same driver and the same bus had occurred in both accidents.
The incidents should serve as a warning to the transport companies and their drivers, because a driving ban for the M2 is a big loss for the services in terms of sales and customer preference.
Regardless of this, this “loss” is insignificant for Faisal Movers compared to the loss of innocent lives by the driver and the service.
