According to the most recent report, Threads, a text-based extension of Instagram, was officially launched on July 5. Within a remarkable span of just five days, a staggering 100 million users have already registered for the platform.
Evidently, Meta’s objective with Threads is to entice Twitter users into their own ecosystem. Nevertheless, the platform is still missing several vital features that users expect, including a chronological feed and robust search functionality. One critical drawback worth mentioning is the inability to delete one’s profile without also losing the Instagram posts associated with it.
The report, sourced from Quiver Quantitative, indicates that the data collection process involves a semi-manual approach. Although the number of users joining Threads to explore its buzz is steadily increasing, it is challenging to track the exact count of individuals leaving the platform using algorithms.
At present, user feeds predominantly showcase content from influencers, brands, and celebrities, which may result in users missing updates from their friends and family.
In a recent development, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, engaged in a tweet discussing Mark Zuckerberg’s association with Threads, where he referred to Zuckerberg as “Zuck is a cuck.” While the choice of language by the billionaire is debatable, this interaction signifies that Twitter is closely observing the advancements made by its competitor.
According to legal documents, there are indications that the new platform might be violating Twitter’s trade secrets and intellectual property. However, a representative from Meta has countered these allegations by stating that none of the individuals involved in the Threads project have previously been employed by Twitter.
