The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert predicting substantial rainfall for various parts of the country, including the provincial capital of Lahore, over the next few days. The alert states that monsoon incursions originating from the Bay of Bengal have reached different areas of Pakistan, resulting in anticipated rains accompanied by thunderstorms until July 17.
Wide Impact Expected Across Multiple Regions
The prevailing weather conditions are expected to bring rain, wind, and thundershowers to Islamabad, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KPK, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The Climate Change Minister, Sherry Rehman, has also cautioned about the potential for urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore due to heavy rainfall. She emphasized the need for precautions as strong winds, thunderstorms, and intense precipitation may lead to damage in already weakened infrastructure.
Continued Alertness Urged as Monsoon Continues
Minister Sherry Rehman has called on relevant departments to remain vigilant, particularly in Sindh, as the next series of monsoon rains are expected to hit Karachi and other regions from July 21 and 22. This ongoing rainy spell marks the second monsoon occurrence this year, with the previous one causing significant rainfall and resulting in numerous rain-related incidents and fatalities in Lahore and other affected areas.
