A British Pakistani showbiz promoter and a Kenyan showbiz promoter, Rani Jamal, fell victim to a fraudulent scheme orchestrated by a Qatar-based Pakistani family. The family convinced them to invest in a non-existent concert featuring popular musicians Drake and Travis Scott, scheduled for May 28, 2021, in Dubai.
The Alleged Fraud Scheme Unraveled
Birmingham-based Pervaiz Akhtar, operating under Jazba Entertainment, has taken legal action against Quantum Sports & Media World (QSM World) based in Doha and its directors: Dawood Khan (Chairman & CEO of QSM World/Abalena Capital Limited), Chief Operating Officer (COO) Hossama Dawood Khan, Co-founder and CEO Suleyman Dawood Khan, COO Mehreen Dawood Khan, and Vice-President Naeem Khan.
Unraveling the Hoax
In his lawsuit, Akhtar reveals that the proposed Drake and Scott concert in Dubai was nothing but a fraudulent scheme perpetrated by fellow Pakistanis. The investment material distributed by Hossama Dawood Khan from QSM World was misleading, as the company had no valid contract with the musicians or their management.
Denials and Deception
Hossama of QSM World, while acknowledging receipt of the money from Akhtar, claims that the $3 million investment was forfeited by Drake and Scott’s management when the concert got canceled. However, representatives of the artists have categorically denied any agreement with QSM World or the confiscation of money. The evidence suggests that QSM World executives presented a fake concert investment proposal to Akhtar and others, which ultimately led to financial losses.
Investigations reveal that Akhtar didn’t invest his own money but managed to convince Rani Jamal’s Ranee Productions Limited to invest $250,000 in the concert. QSM World falsely represented itself as a global sports and media entertainment corporation.
