The Punjab government has launched a new initiative to provide electric and petrol bikes to students, aiming to improve mobility and address daily transportation challenges. This project, part of the Chief Minister Youth Initiative, is designed to offer students both convenient and cost-effective transportation options.
Under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this program seeks to ease student commutes, ultimately saving them both time and money. While the bikes are not provided for free, the government has implemented accessible installment plans to make them affordable for all students.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting students through this initiative. “This project will create convenience for students and ensure savings in their daily lives,” she stated. “The ease of travel and time saved will improve academic performance.”
One notable aspect of the program is its inclusivity. The government has removed the requirement for parental guarantees, thus making the initiative accessible to students who might lack parental support. Additionally, to support the shift towards sustainable transport, the Chief Minister announced plans to integrate electric transportation into Punjab’s infrastructure. This includes setting up solar-powered charging stations across the province.
To ensure students have a reliable and eco-friendly mode of transport, the government will provide battery insurance and warranties for electric bikes. Safety is also a priority; therefore, all bike recipients will be required to wear helmets and other protective gear.
With this initiative, the Punjab government aims to foster a more sustainable and student-friendly transportation environment, enhancing the overall educational experience by reducing commuting stress.
