Private Schools Threaten to Resume Classes, Reject Govt’s Closure Decision

Private school associations have rejected the federal government’s decision to extend the school’s reopening date until July 15, declaring that this will be comparable to the “economic murder” of school owners.

Hours after the federal government’s announcement, the President of the All Pakistan Private Schools Federation (APPSF), Kashif Mirza, made a statement that they would not accept the decision.

Mirza said 90 percent of private schools use rented buildings and owners are required to pay salaries to teachers and other employees.

Around 50% of schools would be shut down permanently and one million people would lose their jobs if educational institutes remained closed until July 15.

He also highlighted the other disadvantage of the decision, saying that the expanded lock will make it impossible for students to offset educational losses.

Mirza called on the government to develop SOPs and open schools nationwide from June 1. He warned that APPSF would open schools under their own SOPs if the government didn’t.

He was also against the federal decision to cancel board tests. Mirza said that there will be many shortcomings when the decision takes effect.

Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood announced on Thursday that it would cancel all board exams. Students are promoted to next classes based on their performance in previous classes.
