Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken the initiative to relaunch the laptop distribution program for exceptional students in the federal capital. During the launching ceremony on Friday, the prime minister expressed his nostalgia for the time when he distributed a significant number of laptops among deserving students as the Chief Minister of Punjab. These laptops proved invaluable during the Covid-19 pandemic, enabling students to continue their education online and also earn a livelihood as freelancers.
Promoting Education and Empowering Youth
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that his mission has always been to provide laptops to every deserving young individual, empowering them to excel in their respective fields. As the Chief Minister of Punjab, he not only distributed laptops but also granted scholarships through the Punjab Education Endowment Fund (PEEF). Today, the beneficiaries of these programs are serving the country in diverse sectors such as healthcare, information technology, and engineering.
Merit-Based Approach and Investment in Rural Youth
The prime minister ensured that the distribution of laptops would strictly follow a merit-based approach, rejecting any form of influence. Furthermore, to support the youth from rural areas, the government has allocated a significant amount of Rs 5 billion for agriculture loans and an additional Rs 5 billion for providing skill-based training. These measures aim to uplift and empower the rural youth, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation.
