Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially announced that the current government’s term will conclude on August 14, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day. Speaking at the Pakistan Education Endowment Fund, Prime Minister Sharif affirmed that the coalition government will complete its tenure in the coming month. The statement comes as the current government’s term comes to an end, and the next general elections are scheduled for October of this year.
Education Prioritization for Future Government
In his address, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of prioritizing education for the upcoming government. He stressed that education is intricately linked with the prosperity and progress of the nation. Furthermore, he urged the International Monetary Fund‘s Executive Board, which is scheduled to review the Stand-By Agreement for Pakistan, to approve it. The Prime Minister requested the nation to pray for the agreement’s approval, expressing his hopes that challenging times would soon pass and the country’s economic standing would be strengthened.
Delay in Elections and Unified Provincial Polls
Earlier this year, the highest court in Pakistan directed the electoral watchdog to conduct elections for the local legislatures of Punjab in accordance with the President’s instructions. However, the Election Commission of Pakistan decided to delay the polls until October 8. Consequently, it is likely that elections in all provinces will be held simultaneously, following this postponement.
