The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has directed the relevant authorities to remain on high alert during the monsoon season in the province this week and to take all necessary precautions.
In an official statement, PDMA, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), said that over the catchment areas of all major rivers as well as the North, Northeast Punjab and DG Khan divisions from 27 to. widespread thunderstorms and moderate to heavy intensity rains are expected July 30th.
As a result, high flooding is expected in the Jhelum River at Mangla upstream and in the Chenab River at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad from July 28-30.
In a separate development, Chief Minister Punjab, Sardar Usman Buzdar, visited PDMA Punjab headquarters on Monday to inspect the control room set up for monitoring the monsoon season and a possible flood situation.
During the visit, officials from PDMA Punjab provided CM Punjab with information on the situation of the rivers, the weather forecast system, precautions for dealing with the flood situation and relief measures.
CM praised the precautions taken by the PDMA and ordered to remain fully vigilant and to continuously monitor the inflow and outflow of water in rivers and weather conditions.
