After facing several delays, Pakistan’s authorities and the federal IT ministry have finally announced July 2023 as the target month for the long-awaited launch of 5G internet services in the country. However, the plan has hit yet another setback, with authorities asserting the necessity of achieving at least 60 percent 4G penetration before proceeding with the 5G rollout.
Insights from ProPakistani reveal that Pakistan’s current 4G penetration falls below the desired 60 percent threshold. To pave the way for superior and high-quality services, the authorities are insistent on attaining the set penetration goal.
In pursuit of reaching the 4G penetration target, the government has taken the decision to invest in and enhance the overall 4G internet coverage across the nation.
Minister of IT and Telecom, Syed Aminul Haque, emphasized that the Ministry of IT and Telecom (MoITT) is actively engaged in a series of discussions with various telecom companies to address concerns and obstacles related to the 5G launch. Additionally, he plans to meet with the Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) to discuss policies and potential challenges before initiating a widespread 5G rollout.
In conclusion, Minister Haque expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for introducing a substantial incentives package for the IT industry within the recently released budget.
