Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, has shown that Pakistan is able to export safety equipment to the health sector, which is a major milestone.
He spoke at a press conference after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministries of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination (NHSR & C), and Science and Technology.
The Prime Minister’s special assistant, Dr. Zafar Mirza, signed the letter of intent on behalf of the Ministry of NHSR & C.
On this occasion, the Minister of Science and Technology, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, the special assistant to the Prime Minister for National Health Services, Dr. Zafar Mirza, Chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council and Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) in attendance.
The framework under this mechanism will trigger innovations and local technical solutions in this area and improve health facilities. This initiative will pave the way for innovators to invest several electro-medical devices in Pakistan.
Electromedical devices are currently regulated by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, and 15 ventilators are in various stages of testing.
The machine trials with 4 PEC ventilators will be completed by the end of the current week.
On this occasion, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that Pakistan was able to export personal protective equipment. Export orders worth $ 10 million are currently pending. He said his ministry would also improve collaboration with local companies that manufacture surgical products.
Dr. Zafar Mirza said we had improved the health care system in Pakistan and would soon be making ventilators on site.
On this occasion, Fawad Hussain said
Today we are not only in position to cater the local needs of the medical equipment including masks, disinfectants, Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) and ventilators but also export many of these which is a tremendous success.
Previously, Pakistan faced a lack of medical equipment to combat COVID-19 and was dependent on other countries.
“The efforts of our scientists and engineers to become self-employed in the field of medical device manufacturing have actually turned the disaster into an opportunity,” added Fawad.
He said the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) received 57 ventilator designs and selected 12 of them, while the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) approved three designs.
The MoU with the Ministry of Health is important for the development of the medical sector and will be a milestone for research in the health sector.
“We will also strengthen cooperation with private medical device manufacturers,” said Fawad Hussain. He said that around 200 acres of land were acquired in Faisalabad to build a medical device industry.
He said that with all of these efforts, Pakistan will soon become a net exporter of medical devices.

وزیر صحت کے معاون خصوصی برائے صحت ، ڈاکٹر ظفر مرزا نے وزارت این ایچ ایس آر اینڈ سی کی جانب سے ایم او یو پر دستخط کیے۔
اس موقع پر وزیر برائے سائنس و ٹیکنالوجی ، چوہدری فواد حسین ، وزیر اعظم کے خصوصی معاون برائے قومی صحت خدمات ڈاکٹر ظفر مرزا ، چیئرمین پاکستان انجینئرنگ کونسل اور چیف ایگزیکٹو آفیسر ڈرگ ریگولیٹری اتھارٹی آف پاکستان (ڈی آر پی) موجود تھے۔
اس میکانزم کے تحت فریم ورک اس شعبے میں جدت اور مقامی انجینئرنگ حل کو جنم دے گا اور صحت کی سہولیات میں بہتری لائے گا۔ اس اقدام سے پاکستان میں متعدد الیکٹرو میڈیکل آلات کی سرمایہ کاری کرنے والوں کے لئے آگے کی راہیں کھلیں گی۔
فی الحال ، ڈرگ ریگولیٹری اتھارٹی آف پاکستان کے ذریعہ الیکٹرو میڈیکل ڈیوائسز کو ریگولیٹ کیا جارہا ہے اور 15 وینٹیلیٹر مختلف ٹرائلز میں ہیں۔
پی ای سی کے ذریعہ 4 وینٹیلیٹروں کی مشین ٹرائل رواں ہفتے کے آخر میں مکمل ہوجائیں گی۔
اس موقع پر خطاب کرتے ہوئے چوہدری فواد حسین نے کہا کہ پاکستان ذاتی حفاظتی سامان برآمد کرنے کی پوزیشن میں ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس وقت 10 ملین ڈالر مالیت کے برآمدی آرڈرز زیر التوا ہیں۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ ان کی وزارت مقامی سرجیکل سامان تیار کرنے والی کمپنیوں کے ساتھ بھی تعاون میں اضافہ کرے گی۔
ڈاکٹر ظفر مرزا نے کہا کہ ہم نے پاکستان میں صحت کی دیکھ بھال کے نظام میں بہتری لائی ہے اور جلد ہی ہم مقامی سطح پر وینٹیلیٹر تیار کریں گے۔
اس سے قبل ، پاکستان کوویڈ 19 سے لڑنے کے لئے طبی سامان کی کمی کا سامنا کر رہا تھا اور اس کا انحصار دوسرے ممالک پر تھا۔
فواد نے مزید کہا ، “مقامی طور پر طبی سامان کی تیاری میں خود انحصار کے حصول میں ہمارے سائنس دانوں اور انجینئروں کی کوششوں نے حقیقت میں تباہی کو ایک موقع کی حیثیت سے تبدیل کردیا ہے۔”
انہوں نے بتایا کہ پاکستان انجینئرنگ کونسل (پی ای سی) نے وینٹیلیٹروں کے 57 ڈیزائن حاصل کیے اور ان میں سے 12 کا انتخاب کیا جبکہ ڈرگ ریگولیٹری اتھارٹی آف پاکستان (ڈی آر پی) نے تین ڈیزائنوں کی منظوری دے دی ہے۔
صحت کے شعبے کی ترقی کے لئے وزارت صحت کے ساتھ مفاہمت نامہ اہم ہے اور یہ صحت کے شعبے میں تحقیق کے لئے سنگ میل ثابت ہوگا۔
فواد حسین نے کہا ، “ہم نجی میڈیکل ڈیوائس مینوفیکچررز کے ساتھ بھی تعاون میں اضافہ کریں گے۔” انہوں نے بتایا کہ فیصل آباد میں طبی سامان کی صنعت قائم کرنے کے لئے قریب 200 ایکڑ اراضی حاصل کی گئی ہے۔
