According to business recorder, Ministry of Energy has directed Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to end the temporary licenses of 36 oil and marketing companies (OMCs), Licenses are being revoked because the OMC has failed to meet the proposed conditions. The report states that there are currently 66 licensed OMCs operating in the country, with the top eight companies having a market share of about 92%.
Allegedly, 36 OMCs failed to store after obtaining licenses, which is a requirement under contracts. He allegedly traded only in Iranian diesel and that is why a final notice of closure is being issued.
Some other OMCs are also showing slowness in building the necessary infrastructure. These companies are far behind and there is little progress in showing them. However, authorities have given the companies a one-year deadline.
Earlier this year, the Cabinet directed the Petroleum Division to take control of the Oil and marketing Companies OMC and fuel stations and initiate the required administrative and legal reforms. The latest order revoking the licenses comes as part of an additional authority directing the ministry to take the necessary steps to oversee the Oil and marketing Companies OMC.
