The federal government of Pakistan has officially declared holidays to commemorate the occasion of Ashura, which falls on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, as per the Islamic lunar calendar.
Dates of Ashura Holidays
As per the official notification, the public will observe holidays on 28th and 29th July (Friday and Saturday) in observance of the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Crescent Sighting and Youm-e-Ashur
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met in Quetta and announced that the crescent for Muharram was not sighted the day before. Consequently, Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram, will be observed on Saturday, July 29, throughout Pakistan.
Significance of Muharram
Muharram holds deep historical and religious importance for Muslims worldwide. It marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar, with the commencement of the Hijri year 1445 on this day.

During this period, Muslims solemnly remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who sacrificed his life in the Battle of Karbala.
