Punjab, a province in Pakistan, has witnessed a distressing surge in violence against women and children during the first quarter of 2023. A report published by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) revealed shocking figures, highlighting the urgent need for action.
Violence Against Women: Kidnappings, Assaults, and Rape
In the span of just three months, Punjab recorded over 10,000 cases of violence against women. The report disclosed that an average of two women were kidnapped every hour, resulting in a total of 5,551 reported cases. Additionally, incidents of physical assault, rape, and human trafficking were alarmingly high.
Disturbing Reality: Violence Against Children
The report by the SSDO also shed light on the distressing reality of violence against children in Punjab. From January to April 2023, there were 1,768 reported incidents of violence targeting children. Shockingly, an average of seven children fell victim to sexual abuse daily. The situation raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of children in the province.
