Lahore High Court Proposes Heavier Fines for Bikers Without Helmets

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suggested imposing a fine of Rs. 5,000 on bikers who do not wear helmets, a significant increase from the current fine of Rs. 2,000. During a recent hearing, Justice Shahid Kareem directed the City Traffic Police Lahore to establish new rules, with the court expected to issue an official order on the matter. The court commented, “Impose this heavy fine; everything will be alright.

As part of the court’s instructions, the police have been directed to initiate a ten-day awareness campaign regarding helmet usage before implementing the new rules.

Crackdown on Bikers Without Helmets

It is important to note that the Lahore Traffic Police have already launched a fresh crackdown on motorcyclists who fail to wear helmets. With the goal of ensuring compliance with traffic regulations, the department has taken stringent action against offenders, resulting in a significant number of fines and motorcycle seizures within a short timeframe.

Within the past nine days alone, the Lahore traffic police have issued an astounding 152,888 challans to motorcyclists found without helmets. This proactive approach aims to raise awareness among riders and promote responsible behavior on the roads. Moreover, fines have been imposed on 23,767 individuals, and more than 38,000 motorcycles have been seized from various areas across Lahore.

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore, Mustansar Feroze, has emphasized the utmost importance of adhering strictly to traffic laws, particularly regarding helmet usage. The department’s primary objective is not merely issuing tickets but ensuring the safety and well-being of the public. Feroze urged citizens to recognize the significance of wearing helmets as a means of safeguarding themselves and their loved ones from potential accidents and injuries.

In a determined move, the CTO has instructed the traffic police to intensify their crackdown on motorcyclists without helmets throughout Lahore. The department has made it clear that repeated violations will not go unnoticed, and strict legal action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the helmet law. This strong approach serves as a deterrent and highlights the Lahore traffic police’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of all road users.
