The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has made an announcement stating that it will no longer issue no-objection certificates to employees of medical teaching institutions (MTIs) who wish to resign. This decision was prompted by the desire of several senior officials at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) to step down following the replacement of the chairman of the board of governors.
Appointment of a New Chairman and Prohibition on Resignations
Dr. Zubair Khan, a retired dermatologist, has been appointed by the provisional government to take over as the new chairman, replacing Dr. Nausherwan Burki. Dr. Burki played a crucial role in implementing health reforms during the government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in 2014. In response to the potential wave of resignations, the Chief Minister’s Advisor on Health, through a notification issued by the provincial health department, has decided to prohibit the issuance of no-objection certificates and the acceptance of resignations from MTI employees.
Government Shuffles Leadership in Tertiary Care Hospitals
Furthermore, the government has taken steps to replace the chairmen of MTIs, LRH, and Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad. Additionally, certain members of other boards in tertiary care hospitals have also been replaced. The rationale behind this decision, as revealed in reports, is the significant impact made by the previous administration in terms of procuring substantial funds and appointing numerous employees. Consequently, the new administration deems it necessary for these individuals to remain in their positions during the transition of power.
