The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) played a crucial role in restoring traffic flow between Gilgit and Skardu by efficiently clearing the landslip debris from Shahre-Baltistan. Another important route near Dhee in Khunjerab has also been successfully cleared for passage.
Naran-Babusar Route Reopens Amid Monsoon Warnings
Amid warnings of heavy monsoon rains by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), there is some relief as the Naran-Babusar route has been reopened for traffic. However, tourists are urged to exercise caution and prioritize safety.
PMD’s Warnings and Precautionary Measures
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about heavy monsoon rains expected in the coming days. Tourists have been specifically advised to reconsider their travel plans during this period to avoid potential mishaps and inconveniences.
According to the PMD update, heavy rains may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore, and Faisalabad from 25th to 28th July. Additionally, landslides are also a concern in the vulnerable regions of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
All relevant authorities have been alerted and are urged to remain vigilant throughout this forecasted period, taking necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and travelers.
