The University of Karachi (KU) has rejected the order of Higher Education Commission (HEC) to end two-year courses and start a new curriculum for associated courses (AD) on a semester basis.
According to reports, the Vice Chancellor of the KU (VC), Prof. Dr. Khalid Iraqi that the university presented the HEC’s decision to its academic council, which twice rejected the decision.
The KU will send a letter to the chairman of the HEC in this regard so that the commission can convene a meeting of the vice chancellor’s forum of 187 public and private universities across the country and take a revised decision.
The Deputy Director for Quality Improvement Cell of the University of Karachi, Javed Akram, confirmed the letter by saying, “The draft of the letter is ready and will be sent to the HEC.”
A summary of the matter has reportedly been sent to the Sindh Board of Directors, which includes information about the HEC’s decisions, and the Sindh government has also been informed.
The acting director reportedly claimed that “Karachi University has 70,000 students enrolled in two-year degrees and MA programs, including private students.”
He noted that the university is currently entering a new phase of admission for the upcoming academic session while facing a scholarship deficit of Rs. 2 trillion.
According to the decision of the HEC, students who enrolled for the two-year programs in December 2018 should complete their degrees by December 2020, and those who do not will be enrolled in the new AD program.
Students completing the two-year ADs qualify as academically equivalent to the fourth semester of a regular four-year BS program and must complete four additional semesters to earn BS certification.

جامعہ کراچی کے قائم مقام ڈائریکٹر کوالٹی بڑھاو سیل ، جاوید اکرم نے خط کی تصدیق کرتے ہوئے کہا ، “خط کا مسودہ تیار ہے اور ایچ ای سی کو بھیجا جا رہا ہے۔”
اطلاعات کے مطابق ، معاملے کی سمری سندھ بورڈ کو ارسال کردی گئی ہے جو ایچ ای سی کے فیصلوں پر بریفنگ دیتی ہے ، اور حکومت سندھ کو بھی اس سے آگاہ کیا گیا ہے۔
قائم مقام ڈائریکٹر نے مبینہ طور پر یہ دعوی کیا ہے کہ “کراچی یونیورسٹی میں نجی طلباء سمیت دو سالہ ڈگری اور ایم اے پروگراموں میں 70،000 طلباء داخل ہیں”۔
انہوں نے ریمارکس دیئے کہ یونیورسٹی اس وقت آئندہ تعلیمی سیشن کے لئے داخلے کے ایک نئے مرحلے میں داخل ہورہی ہے جبکہ اسے 2 ارب گرانٹ خسارے کا سامنا کرنا پڑ رہا ہے-
