In a significant move towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation, Sharjeel Memon, the Minister of Sindh Transport and Mass Transit, took to Twitter on Monday to announce the launch of a cutting-edge electric bus route in Karachi. This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions and promote green alternatives in public transportation.
Route 1: From Malir Cantt to M.A. Jinnah Road
The newly introduced electric bus route spans an impressive 18 kilometers, offering commuters a convenient and eco-conscious travel option. Starting from Malir Cantt’s checkpost number five, it meanders through key locations, including Safoora Chowrangi, Kamran Chowrangi, the Millennium Shopping Mall, Dalmia, Agha Khan Hospital, and Numaish. This modern route is set to become operational from today, providing a seamless journey for passengers along its path.
Route 2: From Bahria Town to Malir Halt
Another electric bus route promises a smooth ride from Bahria Town to Malir Halt. The route will take commuters through essential stops, such as M9 Toll Plaza, Baqai University, Jinnah Avenue, Malir Cantt, Tank Chowk, and Model Colony. With a focus on sustainability, this route contributes to reducing the carbon footprint and easing traffic congestion in the city.
People’s Bus Service Embraces Eco-Friendly Measures
Operating under the banner of the People’s Bus Service, this new electric bus initiative showcases the government’s commitment to sustainable transportation solutions. The fleet includes 13 electric buses, and with this expansion, the number of eco-friendly buses is set to grow.
Towards a Greener Future
Earlier in January, the government had successfully introduced the first electric bus route, connecting Karachi Airport to Seaview. This step marked a milestone in the city’s transportation history and garnered positive feedback from the public.
Promising Expansion on the Horizon
With the successful implementation of the second electric bus route, Minister Sharjeel Memon expressed the government’s aspiration to expand the electric bus service to other regions in Sindh. However, the scale of expansion will be carefully determined based on the demand and response from different areas.
