According to insider information, Huawei is set to make a bold move in its upcoming Mate 60 series, reintroducing the pill-shaped punch hole feature last seen in the Mate 40 and P40 ranges back in 2020.
A Fresh Design Approach with Centrally-Positioned Dual Selfie Cameras
The Chinese tech giant is reportedly planning to detach the dual cameras and 3D ToF sensors from the bezel, unveiling a centrally-positioned dual selfie camera design, which Apple previously introduced in their iPhone 14 Pro series.
Dynamic Island and the Art of Optimizing Limited Space
To maximize the potential of this innovative design, Huawei is expected to incorporate a software feature called Dynamic Island, offering optimized notifications and app usage within the punch hole space, following Apple’s similar approach with their latest iPhones.
The integration of two cameras, along with a ToF sensor, is not a new concept for Huawei’s flagship phones, dating back to the 2019 launch of the Mate 30 series. However, the key differentiator in the Mate 60 series lies in the positioning of these features, previously located on the side or behind a full notch on earlier Mate phones.
Realme has already adopted a similar approach with some of its phones, while Xiaomi is rumored to follow suit with a phone boasting similar features. With the launch of the Mate 60 series, Huawei aims to set a new standard for creative and efficient use of limited space in smartphones.
