Supermodel Gigi Hadid’s recent holiday in the Cayman Islands took an unexpected turn when reports surfaced about her arrest for alleged cannabis possession. However, her representative has stepped forward to shed light on the situation, stating that the drugs in question were legally purchased for medical purposes in NYC, where she holds a valid medical license. Moreover, cannabis has been legalized for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017.
Legal Purchase and Unforeseen Trouble
According to the representative, Gigi Hadid had legally acquired the marijuana with a medical license in NYC, and she brought it along on her trip to the Cayman Islands. Unfortunately, upon arrival at the Owen Roberts International Airport, customs officials discovered the cannabis in her luggage, leading to her and a friend’s arrest.
Facing the Consequences
Following their arrest, Gigi and her friend found themselves in a detention center before eventually being released on bail. Subsequently, they had to appear in court on 12 July, where formal charges were presented, and both of them pleaded guilty. Fortunately, they received fines of $1,000 each, and no convictions were recorded.
Maintaining a Clear Record
In light of the incident, Gigi Hadid’s representative emphasized that her record remains clear, and she has since enjoyed the rest of her time on the island, as depicted in her cheerful Instagram posts with friends at the beach.
