FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have reconfirmed their unwavering support for the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalization Committee (NC) led by Haroon Malik, marking a momentous stride for football in Pakistan. This endorsement comes in the face of opposition from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), which had called for changes within the committee’s management.
The Current Progress of PFF Normalization Committee
FIFA has diligently verified the efficient performance of the current Normalization Committee since its appointment in January 2021, replacing the prior members who failed to fulfill their FIFA-mandated duties. The committee, composed of four members, faced several challenges during the PFF’s suspension period from April 2021 to June 2022, including the lack of suitable facilities and staff.
FIFA’s Extended Mandate and Collaboration Efforts
Acknowledging the PFF NC’s commendable progress, FIFA has granted the committee an extension to continue its work until March 15, 2024. An evaluation of their efforts is planned for October 2023. FIFA’s administration will oversee the advancements in organizing elections in accordance with the PFF Constitution. Furthermore, FIFA emphasizes the need for collaboration with both FIFA and AFC to amend the PFF Constitution, aiming to ensure good governance principles and implement best practices within the organization.
High-Level Meeting to Shape Football’s Future in Pakistan
In a proactive move to discuss the future of football in Pakistan and the current state of the PFF, FIFA has proposed a high-level meeting in Dubai, UAE, scheduled between September 11 and 13, 2023. The meeting will bring together FIFA, AFC, the PFF Normalization Committee, and relevant government officials, providing a platform for constructive dialogue to chart the way forward for football in the country.
