Facebook has announced a range of new video-related features aimed at boosting its competitiveness against platforms like YouTube and TikTok. The social media giant is consolidating all its video experiences by transitioning from the “Watch” tab to a new “Video” tab, providing users with a unified video platform.
To simplify the video creation process, Facebook is moving editing tools from Reels to main feed videos. This change allows users to generate both short and long videos from a single location. The editing tools, including speed control, clip reversal, and replacement, are now available to Meta Business Suite users.
Furthermore, Facebook is introducing additional editing features, such as support for HDR videos on Reels, covering video upload and playback. The platform is also improving the audio experience by making it easier to find suitable audio tracks, reducing background noise, and enabling voiceover recording on videos.
As part of a rebranding exercise, Facebook is replacing the “Watch” tab with the “Video” tab. This new tab will serve as a centralized hub for all video content, including Reels, long-form content, and live videos. Users can seamlessly scroll vertically to transition between videos and utilize a horizontal carousel to browse through various Reels.
The “Video” section will be located on the top bar of the Android app and the bottom bar of the iOS app, ensuring easy access for users. Additionally, users can explore a dedicated exploration page by tapping the search button. This page will present them with trending hashtags, topics, and related short and long videos.
In a bid to enhance cross-platform functionality, Facebook enables users to comment on Instagram Reels viewed on Facebook. This feature is accessible through the video discovery feature and requires linking both Instagram and Facebook accounts in the Accounts Center.
