Dubai Municipality recently granted the first construction license for a private villa utilizing 3D printing technology, marking a significant milestone in the Emirate’s ambitious 3D Printing Strategy 2030. Located in the Al Awir 1 area, the four-meter-high villa will be entirely constructed with locally sourced concrete and is projected to be finalized by October 2023.
Revolutionizing Industries with Technological Empowerment
Mariam Al Muhairi, Acting CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of this groundbreaking project. Not only does it showcase the Municipality’s commitment to innovation, but it also aims to encourage contractors, engineers, investors, and real estate developers to adopt and integrate 3D printing technology into their building operations.
Supporting and Regulating 3D Printing in Construction
Dubai Municipality offers comprehensive support and regulatory measures to monitor and oversee 3D printing in the construction sector. In alignment with the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy and Decree No. (24) of 2021, the Municipality endeavors to increase the utilization of 3D printing in construction to 25% by 2030.
Economic and Environmental Advantages of 3D Printing
The application of 3D printing in construction provides numerous economic and environmental benefits. By streamlining the supply chain, this technology can effectively reduce construction costs and shorten project timelines. Additionally, it facilitates the creation of intricate and sophisticated structures while promoting the use of sustainable and recycled materials. Minimizing construction waste is yet another advantage, contributing to a greener environment. Moreover, 3D printing surpasses traditional construction methods in terms of speed and precision, eliminating the need for extensive on-site labor.
Pioneering Initiatives in 3D Printing Technology
Dubai Municipality introduced a series of specialized technical activities focused on 3D printing technology last year. These encompass construction engineering consultancy, construction contracting, and concrete manufacturing for construction, further propelling the development and implementation of this cutting-edge approach in the Emirate’s construction landscape.
