Zoom’s credibility has been questioned since security problems arose a few months ago. It has been criticized that the video conference app has no end-to-end encryption despite advertising on its website. As a result, she was pushed into the background because of false advertising and numerous other security breaches.
Zoom then announced that only paid users would offer end-to-end encryption. However, recent reports indicate that the security feature is now being offered to everyone. End-to-end encryption will initially be expanded to a beta version of paid and free accounts.
The announcement comes from Zoom’s recent blog posts in which it said:
Today, Zoom released an updated E2EE design on GitHub. We are also pleased to share that we have identified a path forward that balances the legitimate right of all users to privacy and the safety of users on our platform. This will enable us to offer E2EE as an advanced add-on feature for all of our users around the globe – free and paid – while maintaining the ability to prevent and fight abuse on our platform.
According to Zoom, E2EE will be launched next month and everyone has access to AES 256 GCM transport encryption. The company claims that it will be one of the strongest modern encryption services available in the industry. After the launch, E2EE is optional because it limits the functionality for video calls.
