Sony has finally launched its most anticipated product of the year, the new Playstation 5 game console. The device was introduced at the end of a one-hour virtual event titled “The Future of Gaming” and a number of games, including some exclusive games and a number of console accessories.
Design and Layout
There have been many questions surrounding the design of the console since last year, to say the least; The unveiling event was very exciting. Although Sony kept us waiting until the end of the event, it was absolutely worth waiting for what the console looks like.
It looks like Sony has made some important changes to the console’s design. In contrast to the PS4 with a box-like design, the PS5 has a glossy, curved center with white sides and blue accented tags. In addition, it has a slim form factor that appears to be much thinner than the Xbox Series X.
About the design, Sony said: “For the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that was bold, stunning, and different than any previous generation of PlayStation.” They have surely achieved that.
The biggest news, however, is that there will be two versions of the console. a normal PS5 and a slightly slimmer (and cheaper) fully digital version without a drive. This decision makes sense, since most people in the current generation have already switched to digital game purchases, mainly due to the abundance of online sales and discounts.
We also took a closer look at the previously revealed DualSense controller, which follows the same design profile as the console itself. The controller has much better haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, motion sensors, a touchpad, a built-in microphone, an integrated loudspeaker, a headset socket and a USB-C connection.
PS5 Specifications
In March of this year, Sony explained about Mark Cerny, an American video game designer, programmer, producer and entertainment manager, the technical specifications of the PS5 with detailed information about the technical structure of the console and why this is a big deal.
Overall, as expected, the PS5 is a major upgrade from its predecessor, mainly due to the switch to SSDs and Sony’s proprietary SSD architecture and GPU. Both the digital and regular versions are equipped with a user-defined AMD Zen 2 CPU with eight cores, which is clocked at 3.5 GHz. AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture promises 10.28 teraflops and 36 processing units at 2.23 GHz. In terms of memory specifications, the device has 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM and a custom 825 GB NVMe SSD.
Next Gen Games
Sony kicked off the event with a collection of past PlayStation favorites, including everything from Uncharted 4 to God of War, and received a short shoutout, followed by several first-party games for the console.
The highlights of the event were Horizon Forbidden West, the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Project Athia, a new title developed by Square Enix exclusively for the PS5.
A total of 26 games were revealed during the event. While some games that come on the PS5 already exist on the PS4, like the Grand Theft Auto V, most of the brand new names are exclusive to the PS5.

Accessories
Sony also announced that the PS5 will receive a new wireless headset, camera, media remote, and charging station for the DualSense controller.
Although the details are narrow, the conglomerate stated that the HD camera should replace the old PS4 camera accessories and allow players to stream footage from their living rooms while playing.
The headset called Pulse 3D is used in the PlayStation Gold wireless headset. It comes with 3D audio support and double noise reduction.
The media remote control has a built-in microphone for voice commands and four unmarked buttons on the underside of the remote control with unknown functionality.
Finally, the DualSense charging station, at which up to two DualSense controllers can be charged at the same time. Interestingly, the dock does not use the normal USB-C port on the top of the controller for charging, but is connected via a separate accessory dock at the bottom.
Pricing and Availability
The next generation game console will be available for sale during the 2020 holiday season. Although the company hasn’t released pricing, the digital version is expected to cost around $ 500 while the regular version will cost around $ 600.
