Pakistan has been blessed with many places that show the best of nature. In addition, Pakistan is home to some of the oldest civilizations in the world. We still have archaeological sites that give us an insight into people’s lives in the past.
Today we’re going to look at these places that give us a glimpse into the past. These pictures show you some of Pakistan’s best cultural heritage sites, which have also been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Mohenjo-Daro
Mohenjo-Daro was found in the Larkana district in Sindh, Pakistan and was first discovered in 1921. Mohenjo-Daro, the largest and one of the oldest civilizations in the ancient Indus Valley, was founded around 2500 BC.
Ancient City of Taxila
These majestic ruins are 3000 years old. but they are still standing. Taxila is one of the oldest and best historical and cultural sites that have a special place among Buddhists. In the Pakistani capital Islamabad, you can experience the ancient Dharmarajika Stupa, one of the oldest universities in the world, and the ruins of the Sirkap settlement, which can take you back in time to Gandhara.
Takht-i-Bahi
Takht-i-Bahi dates from the 1st century AD and is considered the throne of the Buddhist religion. Takht-i-Bahi means “the throne of spring” or “the throne of origin”.
Lahore Fort
The beauty and heritage of the walled city of Lahore is truly breathtaking. Construction of this amazing fort began in the 16th century from 1566. The Lahore Fort was completed in 1642 during the reign of Mughal King Shah Jahan.
Rohtas Fort
Near the city of Jhelum in the Pakistani province of Punjab lies this wonderful Muslim architecture – the famous Rohtas Fort. This amazing fortress was built in the years (1541 to 1548) by Sher Shah Suri.
Baltit Fort
The Baltit Fort is located in the famous Karimabad village of Hunza Valley. This impressive fortress was built around 700 years ago.

Ganesh Village in Hunza Valley
Ganesh is a historic village in the Hunza Valley near Karimabad, Gilgit Baltistan. The village is said to be the first historical settlement on the old silk road.
Chaqchan Mosque
High in the mountains of the Skardu Valley is one of the oldest mosques in the Gilgit Baltistan region. The Chaqchan Mosque literally means “miracle mosque”. It was built in 1370.
