Punjab police have launched a smartphone-based app called Pehchaan that allows citizens to view criminal records before hiring domestic workers.
The application was launched in collaboration with the Punjab Safe Cities Authorities (PSCA) and enables citizens to check whether someone has a criminal history or not.
Capital Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore, Zulfiqar Hameed, officially launched the Pehchaan app on Thursday at a ceremony in the CCPO office. DIG Investigation, Dr. Inam Waheed, and SSP Investigation, Zeeshan Asghar, also attended the opening ceremony.
While CCPO Lahore Zulfiqar Hameed informed the media about the app, he said:
After signing up for the application, citizens will be able to know about any criminal records before hiring a domestic worker through the Pehchaan App.
In addition, the application can be used to perform a variety of identifications. For example, the app will be useful before setting up a financial transaction with an unknown person.
The Pehchaan app is currently only being launched in Lahore. The app will be available to the rest of the province in the coming months, CCPO Lahore concluded.
