Sharjah Initiates New Employment Opportunities for UAE Citizens

In a landmark decision, Sharjah is set to open its doors to UAE citizens between the ages of 18 and 60, correcting a previous misinterpretation of the law. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, made the announcement, directing the Human Resources Department to create job opportunities for this age group.

Rectifying a Misunderstanding

The pivotal decision came about due to a misinterpretation of a 2018 law concerning the Social Security Fund. The erroneous understanding led to a halt in hiring individuals over the age of 30. However, clarifying the intent behind the 2018 law, Sheikh Sultan emphasized that its objective was to ensure employment opportunities for all individuals aged between 18 and 60, without any specific restrictions on job tenure.

High Demand in Sharjah’s Job Market

Sharjah, renowned for its progressive policies such as the four-day work week, generous leave entitlements, and attractive salaries, is currently experiencing a surge in job applications. The lure of lucrative opportunities is drawing applicants in large numbers, and graduates from Sharjah University can anticipate earning a monthly salary of approximately AED 25,000, complemented by housing allowances and other benefits.

Ongoing Recruitment Drive

Sheikh Sultan affirmed that recruitment efforts are underway for various positions, including roles within Sharjah Police, Civil Defence, and other educational institutions. By the year’s end, the exact number of new hires will be disclosed, showcasing the significant strides taken towards enhancing employment prospects for UAE citizens.

Salary Adjustments for Retirees

Apart from focusing on the workforce’s younger segment, Sheikh Sultan also addressed issues related to retiree pensions. He acknowledged the discrepancy between the pensions received by new and older retirees, with the latter receiving a lower amount. To ensure fairness and balance, Sheikh Sultan announced a decision to increase pensions for older retirees, aiming to level the playing field.
