According to a recent report, the highly anticipated Apple iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to face significant supply constraints upon their scheduled release in September. Challenges Stemming from New Bezels and Display Fusing
The problems encountered by LG Display are linked to the adoption of a novel manufacturing technique aimed at reducing bezel size on the upcoming iPhones. This new approach bears resemblance to a past challenge Apple confronted with certain Apple Watch models. The crux of the matter lies in fusing the display to the metal shell, where LG-made displays are reportedly failing reliability tests.
Apple’s Measures to Overcome Supply Constraints
To address the display reliability issue, Apple is diligently working on refining the design of LG-made displays to meet the required standards. Simultaneously, Apple still has the option to use Samsung-made displays during assembly, providing an alternative solution to mitigate the supply shortage.
Scarcity Expected During Initial Launch
Despite Apple‘s efforts to overcome the manufacturing hurdles, it is expected that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will experience the greatest shortage, followed by the standard iPhone 15 Pro. This scarcity is likely to persist right from the launch, making it challenging for consumers to get their hands on these highly sought-after devices.
