Elon Musk’s Tweet Teases Twitter Notes’ Revival as “Articles”

According to a recent tweet by Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, it appears that the Twitter Notes feature, which allows users to publish longer content on the platform, is making a comeback. Musk’s confirmation comes in response to a user’s mention of the project, indicating that it might be rebranded as “Articles.”

The Evolution of Twitter Notes

Initially introduced as an experimental feature in June 2022, Twitter Notes was launched before Musk acquired Twitter. At its inception, it was exclusively available to a select group of writers in the United States, Canada, Ghana, and the United Kingdom.

Writers who gained access to the feature were granted a dedicated “Write” tab on Twitter, providing them with a platform to compose and manage their Notes. Additionally, their Twitter profiles boasted a Notes tab, enabling followers and users to conveniently access all their long-form content in one location.

Uncertain Times for Twitter Notes

However, after Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social network for a whopping $44 billion, the future of Twitter Notes became uncertain. In the following months, little information was provided about the project, leading to Platformer’s report in November 2022, which stated that Notes had been indefinitely put on “pause.”

Moreover, other Twitter projects related to reading and writing were discontinued by Musk in November 2022, such as ad-free articles for subscribers and the Revue newsletter platform in December.

Twitter Notes’ Comeback Confirmed

Despite the uncertainty, it has now been officially confirmed that Twitter Notes is set to return. A Twitter user, @FaustoChou, shared a tweet on Tuesday, suggesting that Notes might be rebranded as “Articles,” indicating a potential revival of Twitter’s development efforts.

The user’s screenshot revealed the familiar Notes interface, closely resembling its previous form, and showcased other unreleased features, including Twitter Coins.

In response to this tweet, Elon Musk himself confirmed Twitter’s plans for the feature, signaling its intended revival.

Looking Ahead

As of now, no additional specifics have been disclosed by the Twitter owner regarding the company’s plans for Notes, or its potential rebranding as Articles. There is no information provided about the timeline for user access or the public release of the feature.
