FPSC Chairman Finally Appointed by Government After 7-Month Delay

In a significant development, the federal government has appointed Shahid Ashraf Tarar, a retired grade-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), as the new Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). Tarar, who previously served as an FPSC Member starting from January 18, 2021, will now take charge of the vacant chairman position left by former chairman Capt (r) Zahid Saeed upon his retirement on December 15, 2022.

Addressing Delays and Crucial Matters

The prolonged absence of a chairman in the FPSC has resulted in notable delays in addressing crucial matters, most notably the Central Selection Board meeting. This meeting has been pending for the past seven months, causing inconvenience and uncertainty for federal officers in grades 20 and 21. The Central Selection Board plays a vital role in making recommendations for their promotions within the civil service.

Streamlining the Decision-Making Process

With the appointment of Shahid Ashraf Tarar as the new Chairman of FPSC, the commission aims to streamline the decision-making process and address the backlog of pending matters. Tarar’s extensive experience and expertise in the administrative service make him a suitable candidate to preside over the selection board meetings. His role will be crucial in facilitating the decision-making process and ensuring a fair and efficient system for promotions within the civil service.
