Alleged Violation of Regulations in Private School Project

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and the Ministry of Education are currently facing an investigation over accusations of violating regulations in a private school project. The project in question involves the construction of a private school in Sector F-11, Islamabad, on a plot originally designated for a government primary school. This plot, worth billions of rupees, was intended to provide free education to the residents of the federal capital.

Conflict with Capital Development Authority (CDA)

Reports indicate that the FDE had informed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) about their plans to establish a school through a public-private partnership. However, the CDA has raised concerns, pointing out that the plot, which spans approximately 21 kanals, is specifically reserved for non-commercial purposes, such as public schools. They have warned that they might revoke the allotment if the FDE proceeds with their plan.

According to Syed Safdar Ali, a representative from the CDA, the terms and conditions of the land’s allotment strictly prohibit the establishment of private schools on land designated for government-run educational institutions. The CDA has emphasized its swift response to the FDE’s letter, stating their firm position against permitting the establishment of a private school on the designated plot.

Doubts, Concerns, and Calls for Investigation

Critics have expressed doubts regarding the FDE’s claim that 20 percent of students at the proposed school would receive free education. There are concerns that private entities might take advantage of public resources and eventually charge exorbitant fees, contradicting their initial intentions.

The controversy surrounding this project has raised suspicions among officials, leading a representative from the CDA to call for an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). As the situation unfolds, the future of the plot in F-11/2 remains uncertain, causing many to question the transparency and intentions of the education authorities involved.
