Heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms are predicted to hit Karachi starting today, as announced by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The weather forecast also includes additional rainfall anticipated in several other cities across Pakistan, such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Gujranwala, and Lahore.
Warnings of Urban Flooding and Landslide Risks
The PMD has issued warnings about the potential risks of urban flooding in various cities and the danger of landslides in hilly areas. These cautionary measures aim to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
Precautions and Incidents in Affected Areas
In response to the impending heavy rainfall, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has declared a rain emergency in the city. Proactive measures have been taken to alleviate any inconvenience caused by the monsoon rains. Unfortunately, incidents related to the rain have already occurred in different parts of the country.
In Lahore, over 10 lives were tragically lost due to a roof collapse caused by torrential rains. Moreover, a bus overturned near Hazara Interchange, causing injuries to seven individuals. In Attock’s Karbala area, heavy showers resulted in the collapse of a house’s cement nets, leading to injuries sustained by four people. These incidents highlight the importance of taking necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall and potential flooding.
